The "graduation cap" is the traditional hat worn by graduates during their academic degree celebration, originating from Anglo-Saxon and American traditions. In Italy, it has become popular, especially at informal events such as graduation parties. It is a square, black hat with a colored tassel. Its purpose is to celebrate the completion of studies, often used as an alternative to the traditional laurel wreath. Although both are symbols of graduation, the laurel wreath maintains a strong cultural tradition in Italy. The choice between the two depends on personal taste, and nothing prevents combining both symbols.
